>Maintain focus on comments from built environment, building, neighborhoods, etc. stance
>Permeable pavement: bring education to MDOT rather than senate?
>EPA CPP:
-Reach State Air Quality offices (MDEQ) to get involved with working group(s)
-See yammer for guide on states with advanced codes, states without advanced codes

LEARNED:
>For established USGBC advocacy, look to WI, MN, CA, MA, NC chapters
FL in process of setting strategic priorities

>Resiliency: USGBC collaborated wtih ICLEE for Mayor's Event, report upcoming in future months

>National focused on Greenbuild, outreach to delegation/ chapters will engage congress

>MS North:
Kevin McNeely featured in Detroit News Op Ed
-Working with GM & Lafontaine on Manufacturing
>Note MLive article on Maurice Cox & Mayor Duggan's Greening Plan

>Remain alert to: MI Timber Industry, Roads, EE Rollback

>USGBC Advocacy operational best practices
All-volunteer run committees: focus energy into very narrow priorities

>This week: inquire member/allied policy/business priorities
>include our priority issues  in survey
>May need to move Sept. policy call due to labor day
>In policy:
-Emphasize Risk Management & Governance
-Include argument for security & resilience

CHAPTER ACTIONS:
*Who within/allied with USGBC might be willing to promote or advocate for permeable pavement (for road repair/replacement legislation)?
*Ask: legislative feedback from LEED ND

*Committee chairs, please select an Advocacy liaison to ensure we're all on the same page
*Ask: what do you want representatives (or the public) to know about your organization, product, or committee's work?

USGBC South Florida seeks volunteer judges for their design competition


UPCOMING EVENTS

Thurs. August 27th at 11:30am, special guest Jerome Garciano of RC Legal presents an overview of new Green/EE/RE nationwide tax incentives on our Advocacy call.

Starting September on the 1st Thursday of each month we'll have a statewide policy roundtable open to any allied organizations to share their efforts.

Also starting September, the 2nd Thursday of each month, we intend to have a nation-wide USGBC Advocacy best practices round table call for operations, admin, and policy insight.
