13 Aug 2015 notes & Q4 priorities

Decided:
>This week: inquire member/allied policy/business priorities
>include our priority issues  in survey
>May need to move Sept. policy call due to labor day
>In policy:
-Emphasize Risk Management & Governance
-Include argument for security & resilience

CHAPTER ACTIONS:
*Who within/allied with USGBC might be willing to promote or advocate for permeable pavement (for road repair/replacement legislation)?
*Ask: legislative feedback from LEED ND

*Committee chairs, please select an Advocacy liaison to ensure we're all on the same page
*Ask: what do you want representatives (or the public) to know about your organization, product, or committee's work?


EVENTS:
>National Advocacy update from Christina Kuo this Thurs. at 11:30am
>Next week at 11:30am: Green Incentive/tax compendium for Renewable/Energy Efficiency presented by Jerome Garciano of RC Cole legal + Q&A
>Open call-in on statewide policy/collaboration with USGBC MI & Allies
>Collaborative cross-chapter best practice call (operations, administration, and policy) w/ USGBC MA 2nd Thurs. in Sept.

ADMINISTRATIVE

>Create a USGBC Advocacy Fund-List & approach eligible/aligned or allied organizations to help sponsor
-Adopt & modify USGBC MA criteria for Advocacy Fellow
>Create monthly cross-chapter collaboration call (policy, ops, admin best practices)
-Collaboration with USGBC MA and other related chapters for best practices

POLICY
>Comment on energy policy
>Recommend permeable pavement in new roads/future repairs
>Monthly open Policy conference call/event

-Identify common needs across Green Building industry
-Better serve and recruit members and potential allies

OPERATIONAL
>Committee Liasons
>Issue Champions-Lead on core USGBC Advocacy topics, can provide chapter member CEU opportunities during report-outs + boost chapter revenues.

Mostly responding to industry concerns, no East Michigan rep
-Chief concern: timeframe
-17 states looking to sue EPA, Schulte might
-Emphasize 2020 targets
-MI Water Strategy/Sustainable Business Forum now hosting webinars
